EDGE pilot Lewis Proctor showed promising pace in the opening round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge race at Imola last weekend. Proctor lined up in the #31 WRT prepared Audi R8 GT3 alongside team mates Finlay Hutchinson and Diego Menchaca in the Silver class car.
After some great pre season testing the trio were prep’d and ready to take on the iconic Italian circuit. Qualifying would see it run under 3 separate sessions enabling each driver to take his turn show his pace. The combined time taken from all three drivers would set the grid for the 3 hour race. It was a frantic qualifying session as all 52 cars took to the track – space management would be crucial. The #31 Audi R8 would line up in P13 in class.
Proctor was chosen by the team to take the lead stint – an opportunity that he relished. As the lights went out, the 25 year old Scotsman made a fantastic start and instantly began to make his way through the pack. The key with the GTWC races is to keep out of the carnage that always happens throughout the entirety of the race, and Proctor did just that. Having a faultless stint and keeping his nose clean he made his way through the pack to be at the sharp end of the field at the end of his stint. He then handed over to Menchaca and Hutchinson to bring the car home in one piece. After numerous FCY and safety car periods the team bought the #31 Audi R8 GT3 Evo across the line in a solid 6th place. A great start to Proctors GT World Challenge campaign.
