Swiss racer Alain Valente scored a solid points haul at the weekend at Oulton Park in the penultimate round of the British GT Championship.
Alain and teammate Michael Benyahia came into the weekend off the back of a podium at Snetterton last month in high hopes of repeating the success.
Qualifying 1 saw Alain’s teammate Benyahia take the wheel and he managed a time that would see the #3 car start from P4. Valente then took the helm for the faster pro session where he set a time that would be good enough for P5.
Race 1 saw Benyahia take the wheel. The #3 car made a good start and held position. At the halfway stage Benyahia pitted and handed over to Valente. Some fantastic battles whilst keeping consistent lap times saw Valente hold position for his stint and brought the car across the line in P4.
Race 2 would see Valente start. The heavy rain made the driving conditions extremely tricky but Valente made his way through the field. At the halfway stage when Valente handed over to his teammate, they were in P2! Benyahia held position and stayed behind the other RJN McLaren of James Kell. A strong result was looking good until some contact between the two McLarens with just 10 mins to go would see Benyahia slip down the order to P5 as he crossed the line – a disappointing end to what could have been a great result.
