15 year old Luca Hopkinson made his full season debut in the Ginetta Junior championship last weekend at Donington Park in Leicestershire.
Hopkinson previously took part in the winter series of the Ginetta Junior series with a best result of 15th and is looking to aim for consistent top 10 finishes and rookie podiums in 2022.
Qualifying took place on the Saturday of the race weekend and Hopkinson made the most of the 20 minute session by placing his R Racing prepared machinery in 6th for race 1 and 5th for race 2 in the rookie class (14th overall for both).
Race 1 saw Hopkinson battling hard, making up a position on the opening lap. By the end of lap 2 however, and in true Jnr style, contact saw Luca drop to the back of the pack. Never one to give up, Luca got his head down and raced back through the field to cross the line in 19th overall and 8th in the Rookie class.
Race 2 saw Luca once again make a great start and gain 4 places on the opening lap! Battling hard with the more experienced drivers would Luca slip back down the order throughout the hectic race and the #42 Ginetta crossed the line P14 overall and P7 in the rookie class.
The final race of the weekend would see Luca once again line up in P14. The usual opening lap drama saw Luca slip down the order to p20. With the bit between his teeth, Luca scrambled the #42 car back through the order to cross the line in P16 overall and P7 in the rookie class. Overall a successful weekend for the 15 year old with some constant results and lap times getting faster and faster all weekend.
