Victory for George in the 12 hours of Spa

George Delivers Stunning Victory on Surprise Call-Up at Spa 12 Hours

The eighth running of the Michelin 12 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, part of the 24H Series, took place between 18th–20th April 2026 at the iconic Belgian circuit, delivering a standout performance for EDGE Sporting Management driver Harry George.

George was drafted in at the last minute by Optimum Motorsport to replace an unwell driver, turning what began as an unexpected opportunity into a remarkable race-winning weekend. Despite the late call-up, George’s prior experience at Spa – gained through his British GT campaign – allowed him to immediately find his rhythm behind the wheel of the McLaren 720S GT3 Evo.

Pole Position Sets the Tone

With minimal preparation time, George and his teammates delivered a composed and highly competitive performance in qualifying. Under the 24H Series format, which averages each driver’s lap times, the Optimum Motorsport entry secured pole position with a combined average of 2:15.534 – an impressive statement given the circumstances.

The result marked a perfect start to what would prove to be a super successful weekend for the British driver and team.

Strong First Half Establishes Control

The race, split into two six-hour segments across Saturday and Sunday, began with the opening stint on Saturday morning. By the halfway mark, the Optimum Motorsport McLaren led the field by just under two seconds after completing 117 laps.

George and his teammates also recorded the fastest lap of the race to that point, a 2:16.563, underlining both pace and consistency in a tightly contested GT3 field.

Dominance Sealed on Sunday

The second half of the race resumed on Sunday morning, continuing seamlessly from Saturday’s running. Maintaining their advantage, the Optimum Motorsport trio delivered a controlled and disciplined performance across the remaining six hours.

After a total of 12 hours and 30 minutes of racing, the McLaren completed 254 laps, crossing the line 52.6 seconds clear of the second-placed Audi R8 LMS GT3 from Haas RT to secure a commanding overall victory.

George Reflects on “Whirlwind” Weekend

Following the race, George reflected on an extraordinary few days:

“It’s been a whirlwind weekend. To go from not expecting to race, to getting the call-up, organising travel at the last minute, and then jumping into a car at a circuit I love—it’s just incredible.
To come away with pole position and the win is something really special.”

He added his appreciation to both teams involved:

“A huge thank you to Optimum Motorsport for the opportunity, and to EDGE Sporting Management for their continued support. Hopefully this is just the start of a very successful season.”

This result bodes well for Harry’s full 2026 campaign, which continues in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup at Monza next month.
