Seewooruthun Secures Debut FRECA Podium at Red Bull Ring

EDGE Sporting Management driver Reza Seewooruthun made an immediate impact on his debut weekend in the 2026 Formula Regional European Championship, securing a podium finish at the opening round held at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.

Stepping up into the highly competitive FRECA series with Rodin Motorsport, Seewooruthun arrived at the event off the back of encouraging pre-season testing, with strong pace positioning him as a contender heading into the weekend.

Qualifying Challenges Mask Underlying Pace

Qualifying, however, did not reflect that potential. Traffic proved to be a decisive factor, with Seewooruthun unable to maximise performance during the peak tyre window. As a result, he secured P12 on the grid – an outcome that understated his true pace.

Race 1: Strong Progress Before Setback

Race 1 immediately demonstrated the underlying speed. Launching from 12th, Seewooruthun made decisive early progress, climbing to P8 within the opening stages. Unfortunately, contact in a congested midfield battle caused damage, forcing him down the order and ultimately resulting in a P28 finish.

Despite the result, his performance was notable – setting a lap time faster than the race winner, underlining both his pace and the competitiveness of the package.

Race 2: Maiden Podium on Debut Weekend

Race 2 marked a significant breakthrough. Seewooruthun delivered a composed and competitive drive to secure P2, claiming his first podium in the championship.

The race, however, was not without frustration. A rival starting alongside him executed a jump start, gaining track position into Turn 1 and effectively dictating the early phase of the race. Although the driver later received a time penalty, the lost track position proved decisive.

Seewooruthun demonstrated superior pace throughout and, without the compromised start scenario, had a realistic opportunity to challenge for victory. Nonetheless, a second-place finish represents an outstanding result in his first FRECA weekend.

Race 3: Physical Encounter Limits Final Result

The final race of the weekend proved to be a more physical contest. Starting from P8, Seewooruthun made a solid launch but was quickly caught in multi-car contact during a tightly contested opening phase. The incident forced him down the order, limiting his ability to convert pace into a representative result.

Strong Foundations for the Season Ahead

While the final results sheet does not fully reflect the overall performance, the key takeaway from the weekend is clear: Seewooruthun has the pace to compete at the front of the FRECA field.

A maiden podium, combined with race-winning pace and strong progression through the field, highlights both driver capability and the competitiveness of the package moving forward.

Following the event, Seewooruthun expressed his appreciation to Rodin for providing a strong car, and to EDGE Sporting Management for their continued support.

With momentum established, Seewooruthun and the team now look ahead to the upcoming rounds aiming to convert this early promise into consistent front-running results.
