EDGE Sporting Management driver Reza Seewooruthun delivered a strong performance, securing his second podium finish of the campaign with an impressive third-place result at the Hungaroring. The breakthrough weekend also featured a front-row start and a second points finish, providing a welcome reward for the hard work put in by both Seewooruthun and British team Rodin Motorsport during a challenging opening half of the season.
Round five of the highly prestigious Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine took place at the Hungaroring over the weekend of 4–5 July, with the ultra-competitive series once again producing incredibly fine margins throughout testing, qualifying and both races.
Having shown excellent pace throughout the official test sessions, Seewooruthun carried that speed into Saturday morning’s qualifying. With the field split into two separate qualifying groups before the times are combined to determine the grid, every thousandth of a second proved crucial. The EDGE Sporting Management driver produced a superb lap to top his qualifying group and ultimately missed out on his maiden FRECA pole position by just 0.003 seconds, earning a front-row start in second place for the opening race.
A strong launch off the line presented an opportunity to challenge for the lead into the opening corners. Seewooruthun committed to the move but was ultimately left on the outside, allowing another rival to capitalise as he slipped from second to third by the end of the opening lap.
With exceptionally high temperatures sweeping across Europe, tyre degradation became one of the defining characteristics of the weekend. Rather than overusing his tyres early in the race, Seewooruthun drove with maturity and composure, carefully managing their performance over the race distance before securing an excellent third-place finish. The result marked his first podium of the 2026 FRECA season and represented a significant confidence boost for both driver and team.
Following the race, Seewooruthun said:
“I’m very happy with the result and with the points we scored today. It’s been a tough start to the season, so it’s nice to be able to show the hard work that has been going on behind the scenes. The team’s done an amazing job this weekend and the car has been really good throughout, and now my focus is on doing it all again tomorrow, putting together a good qualifying session and carrying on from where we all left off today.”
Unfortunately, Sunday did not begin quite as positively. In another exceptionally close qualifying session, Seewooruthun was unable to maximise his run and qualified 16th, leaving himself with a sizeable challenge for the second race of the weekend.
The young Brit responded superbly. Producing a measured and determined recovery drive around one of Europe’s most demanding overtaking circuits, he worked his way through the field to cross the line in tenth place before a post-race penalty for a competitor ahead promoted him to ninth.
A podium finish, a further points-scoring result and a vastly improved level of competitiveness made Hungary comfortably Seewooruthun’s strongest weekend of the season so far. After a difficult opening four rounds, the performances at the Hungaroring provide clear evidence that the hard work behind the scenes is beginning to pay dividends and could mark a significant turning point in his 2026 Formula Regional European Championship campaign.
