Porter Claims Silver Class Victory On British GT Return At Spa

EDGE Sporting Management driver Mikey Porter produced an impressive performance on his return to GT4 machinery, claiming Silver-Silver class victory and second overall in GT4 during the fourth round of the 2026 British GT Championship at Spa-Francorchamps.

The annual overseas round of the British GT Championship took the series to the world-famous Belgian Grand Prix venue, with Porter receiving a late call-up to join Optimum Motorsport in its McLaren Artura GT4 alongside Josh Stanton.

Despite the last-minute nature of the opportunity, Porter adapted quickly to the GT4 car and was immediately on the pace throughout testing. That speed was converted into an outstanding qualifying performance, as Porter and Stanton combined to secure GT4 pole position by more than 0.9 seconds.

Very warm conditions greeted the field for Sunday’s two-hour race, with a European heatwave adding to the challenge. The race was also particularly busy, with British GT sharing the circuit with the French GT Championship, creating heavy traffic throughout the contest.

Starting from pole, Stanton lost the lead on the opening lap but settled into second place, which the Optimum Motorsport pairing maintained through the opening stint. A well-timed caution period then coincided with the pit window, allowing the team to react quickly and bring the car in to hand over to Porter.

The strategy proved decisive, with Porter emerging in the lead of the GT4 field for the second half of the race.

Porter looked set to fight for the overall GT4 victory, but a late safety car with around 25 minutes remaining bunched the field together once again. At the restart, traffic played a major role, with several cars out of position and lapping traffic disrupting the battle for the lead.

During that phase, Porter was slightly delayed and was overtaken by Darren Turner in the Aston Martin. Porter showed strong pace in the closing stages and quickly reduced the gap, but Turner was able to hold on for the overall GT4 win.

Porter crossed the line second overall in GT4, while also securing victory in the Silver-Silver category alongside Stanton.

For Porter, who has spent recent seasons racing GT3 machinery in Europe, the result marked a highly successful return to GT4 competition and underlined his ability to adapt quickly in unfamiliar circumstances.

Following the event, Porter thanked EDGE Sporting Management and Optimum Motorsport for the opportunity, describing the weekend as a hugely enjoyable experience at a circuit he loves.
