Mikey Porter – International GT Open
EDGE Sporting Management Driver Mikey Porter, representing Optimum Motorsport, competed in the Spa Francorchamps International GT Open Race in the PRO category, driving a McLaren 720S GT3 EVO alongside teammate Zac Meakin.
After qualifying P7 in his driver category, Porter was confident for the race as he’d lost 3 tenths in traffic which would’ve put him P4 and only 4 tenths off the factory driver on pole position. By the time the two drivers’ times were combined they would start the 3-hour feature race in P5.
Porter made good progress once the car was handed over to him for his first stint and by the end of this period of the race they were fourth in the standings.
Due to the championships regulations they were forced to take a five second success penalty from the first round in Portimao, which made the last few laps very close and hard fought, which included some light contact with another car.
Undeterred by this Porter managed to bring the car home in fourth place in the pro category.
A successful & competitive weekend for the young EDGE star who commented after the race:
“I think everyone loves this track and I am no exception. I was really pleased to be so competitive this weekend and don’t feel that we were very far off a podium finish. I’d like to thank Edge Sporting management, optimum motorsport and McLaren for this opportunity and providing such a competitive car.”
Results: Q – P5 (combined) / Race – P4 (Pro Category)
