Henry Mercier – F4 British Championship Certified by FIA – Rd.2 – Silverstone GP Circuit
The second round of the F4 British Championship was held at the ‘Home of British Motorsport’, Silverstone, on the Grand Prix layout & consisted of races 4-6 of the Championship.
EDGE Management Driver, Henry Mercier, in his debut season in the championship, was looking for some strong results following the first Round at Donington the week before.
Driving for the Argenti Motorsport team, Mercier was encouraged by his pace in testing but this did not necessarily convert into qualifying with both driver and his engineers slightly disappointed with the P15 grid position going into the weekends racing.
Race 1 was a race of attrition with lots of very close racing & contact between cars but this was negotiated brilliantly by Mercier who came home in P8 overall which was P3 in the Rookie category, his first podium of the season.
Race 2 was a lot calmer than Race 1 but a late safety car bunched everyone back up again for a single lap sprint to the flag. Despite pressure from fast cars behind, Henry managed to hold position to claim another P3 in the Rookie class, a podium double!
Race 3 saw some first lap contact with another car push Henry back to almost last place by the end of lap one with a mountain to climb. However, this new-found confidence with the car, following the two podiums from the previous races helped the American charge back through the field to recover to P13 by the flag.
Shortly after the final Race Mercier commented;
“This was a positive weekend, especially after a tough opening round at Donington. To get my first, and then shortly after my second podium of the year was also great for me and the team & I’m really looking to take this confidence into the next round at Snetterton, where we’ve been quick in testing. I’d just like to take this opportunity to thank EDGE & Argenti for all their help & hard work”
Results: Q – P15 / Race 1 – P8 (P3 in Class) / Race 2 – P14 (P3 in Class) / Race 3 – P13 (P5 in Class)
