Charlie Fagg – AUTOBACS SUPER GT Series- Round 2 – Fuji – May 2025
The latest round of the highly prestigious Autobacs Super GT Series was held at the world-famous Fuji Speedway circuit in Oyama, Japan. This ex-F1 venue always draws a huge crowd for Super GT and this race was no exception with over 85,000 people in attendance to watch some of the best GT cars in the World.
EDGE Sporting Management Driver Charlie Fagg returns to the championship in 2025 & is once again driving the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo engineered by the the D’station Vantage team partnering Japanese driver Tomonobu Fujii.
Tomonobu Fujii got the car into the top 10 places in Q1 and handed the car over to Fagg for the pole position shootout in Q2, where the top cars reset lap times for a superpole style session.
Fagg produced a superb lap putting the British machine on pole position by just 6 hundredths of a second.
This was the perfect start for the 3hr feature race to follow.
The race started well and was going to plan until a puncture, whilst in the lead, forced Fujii san to make an unscheduled pitstop putting them down the order & out of sync with the other cars.
They found themselves in sixth place and a comeback drive ensued where they eventually re-took the lead that they lost but were forced to make a late pit stop for fuel which again pushed them back down the order. A very exciting final few laps saw them claw their way back to 2nd place, which they took on the last lap, for a very eventful podium finish after 3 hours of hard racing.
After the event, Fagg thanked EDGE Sporting Management and the whole team at D’station for the opportunity and putting out such a competitive car saying…
“It was fantastic to be back racing in Japan and to do it in such a great car in front of such a big crowd was really amazing. 2nd place was really positive but it’s a little bitter sweet as we definitely had the pace to win. Roll on the next round in Malyasia!”
