Goff Extends Championship Lead Despite Back Of The Grid Starts!

Round three of the 2026 Ginetta Junior Championship powered by Sunoco Race Fuels took place at the challenging Oulton Park Circuit International circuit as part of the support package for the British GT Championship.

EDGE Sporting Management driver and championship leader Lewis Goff arrived at the Cheshire venue looking to continue his exceptional start to the season, having already secured five victories from the opening six races of the campaign.

The weekend began in extremely positive fashion, with both Goff and the R Racing team showing strong pace throughout testing and heading into Saturday morning’s crucial qualifying session full of confidence. Goff underlined that pace by setting what would ultimately prove to be the fastest lap of the session. However, disaster struck shortly afterwards when the lap was disallowed due to track limits infringements, forcing the championship leader to start both Race 1 and Race 2 from P25 on the grid.

What followed was one of the standout recovery drives in recent Ginetta Junior History.

Across the opening two races of the weekend, Goff carved his way through the field in spectacular fashion, gaining a combined 39 positions across the two encounters. A remarkable drive to P4 in Race 1 was followed by another superb comeback performance to finish P5 in Race 2, firmly keeping himself in championship contention despite the qualifying setback.

Crucially, the grid for Race 3 is formed from the finishing order of Race 2, meaning Goff would finally start amongst the leading group for the final race of the weekend.

From there, normal service resumed.

Starting from fifth position, Goff wasted little time working his way through the front-running pack before taking control of the race. Once in the lead, he demonstrated the pace that had been evident throughout the weekend, pulling clear to secure a commanding victory and claim his sixth win of the 2026 season.

Overall, it represented an outstanding recovery from what had initially looked like a disastrous Saturday morning. Outside of the unfortunate qualifying infringement, Goff’s pace and racecraft across the entire event once again reinforced why he currently leads the championship standings.

Speaking after the weekend, Goff said he was “proud of the recovery across the three races” whilst acknowledging that the mistakes in qualifying could not be repeated moving forward. He also thanked the R Racing team for providing him with a fast car throughout the weekend, as well as EDGE Sporting Management for their continued support.

The championship now heads to Croft Circuit in three weeks’ time, where Goff will arrive holding a commanding lead in the championship standings.
