Aston Millar – British GT Championship – Rnd 7 – Snetterton
The Snetterton 300 circuit hosted round seven, races 14 and 15, of the British GT championship. EDGE driver Aston Millar, received a last minute call up to the Ginetta factory backed entry ran by DTO motorsport to drive the Ginetta G56 GT4 Evo in the GT4 category of the championship. He was to partner Freddie Tomlinson, the son of the British manufacture’s owner, Lawrence.
Miller had some experience of a car very similar as he finished runner-up in the Ginetta Supercup Championship in 2022 before doing a full campaign in the British GT championship in the GT4 category driving a McLaren Artura in 2023.
Testing on Friday went well and Millar took to the car excellently despite having more power and more aero than the previous generation that he’d driven before.
Qualifying was his real time to shine however as at the end of the session he put the G56 Evo on pole position in the GT4 Class. This was some achievement considering he was coming in halfway through the championship.
Millar took the first stint in the first of the one hour races to be held over the weekend and got a good start and settled into the lead nicely. From here it was about managing tyre wear and the gap back to the cars behind him before pitting to hand the car over to Freddie to finish the race.
Freddie had a near perfect run to the end except with two laps to go when he was caught and eventually overtaken by a BMW M4 GT4.
However, they finished in an excellent second place in the GT4 category the first podium for the team and car this season.
Race two however was not to be a repeat of this good fortune as contact on lap one whilst the car was in the hands of his teammate forced the car into retirement.
After the race Millar commented:
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank both Lawrence and Freddie Tomlinson for the opportunity to drive the Ginetta this weekend and I’m really pleased that we got a good result in race one. I hope to do some more with Ginetta in the future. Thanks as always goes to the team at Edge Sporting Management.”
