Round two of the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain took place at the iconic Brands Hatch Circuit on the short but ultra-demanding Indy layout, supporting the latest rounds of the British Touring Car Championship. EDGE Sporting Management driver Callum Voisin arrived at the event looking to continue his impressive adaptation to sports car racing following a solid opening round of the championship.
Despite encouraging pace throughout testing, Voisin admitted it was difficult to fully judge where he stood competitively heading into qualifying, with teams running varying fuel loads, tyre strategies and setup programmes across the sessions. Around the compact Brands Hatch Indy circuit, where lap times are traditionally separated by tiny margins, extracting the perfect lap in qualifying would prove critical.
Qualifying one saw Voisin deliver an excellent performance to secure a front-row start in P2. While pleased with the result, both Voisin and the Rosland Gold by Century Motorsport team felt there was still further potential to unlock from the car setup heading into the second session. Those changes immediately paid dividends in Q2, as Voisin produced a sensational lap to secure pole position by over two tenths of a second — an enormous margin around such a short circuit and a clear indication of the pace underneath him.
That left Voisin heading into the races with two front-row starts, including his first pole position in the championship.
Race one initially looked as though it may become a recovery drive after Voisin made a slightly compromised launch from the front row and slipped backwards to fourth position in the opening stages. However, the pace of the Rosland Gold by Century Motorsport Porsche was immediately evident, with Voisin carving his way back through the field with confidence and composure.
Once into the lead, the EDGE Sporting Management driver was untouchable. Lap after lap, Voisin extended his advantage before eventually crossing the line over seven seconds clear of the opposition — a remarkable margin at Brands Hatch Indy and a performance that firmly underlined his growing confidence and understanding of the Porsche machinery following his transition from single-seater racing.
Starting race two from pole position, Voisin made no mistake at the start and led the field into the opening corner. However, while sitting on the grid prior to the race start, Voisin suspected he may have marginally overshot his grid box — something later confirmed by officials, resulting in a five-second time penalty for an incorrect starting position.
The penalty, communicated to Voisin on lap five, transformed the race into a flat-out qualifying-style sprint. Knowing he needed to build a margin greater than five seconds to retain victory once the penalty was applied, Voisin responded in emphatic fashion.
Describing the remainder of the race as “qualifying laps every lap,” Voisin delivered a relentless display of pace and consistency, steadily stretching his lead despite the pressure hanging over the race outcome. With fears of a safety car potentially destroying his advantage, the young Brit kept his focus and ultimately crossed the line over eight seconds clear of the field, comfortably retaining victory even after the penalty was applied.
The result completed a flawless weekend for Voisin, securing two victories from two races alongside a front-row lockout in qualifying and firmly establishing himself as an early championship favourite.
With only a short two-week turnaround before the championship heads to Snetterton Circuit, Voisin now arrives at the next round as championship leader and carrying significant momentum.
Following the weekend, Voisin commented:
“I really enjoyed the weekend and I finally feel like I’m properly getting my head around these cars and how to extract the most from them. A huge thank you to Rosland Gold by Century Motorsport for giving me a fantastic car all weekend, and also to EDGE Sporting Management for the opportunity and support throughout.”
