Dean MacDonald – International GT Open – GT3 – Pro Class
The opening round of the 2025 International GT Open Championship took part at Portugal’s Portimao circuit.
McLaren Factory & EDGE Sporting Management Driver, Dean Macdonald, was driving his McLaren 720S GT3 for the Greystone GT Team in the Pro Class & was confident of a strong showing in the opening round.
This confidence was well warranted as MacDonald qualified the car second, first McLaren, on the grid just 2 tenths off pole position.
Going into race one, the EDGE driver was confident of their race pace as they looked to score a strong result in the opening round of the season. Things don’t always go to plan in motorsport but this time it did and the pair had a fantastic race to take the victory by over seven seconds!
Race 2 didn’t go quite so smoothly and the pair ended up finishing P6 to take home some solid points to add to their victory from race one.
This leaves them sitting second in the championship after the opening round of the championship.
Shortly afterwards MacDonald Said:
“This was a really good opening weekend at a circuit, that on paper, doesn’t suit the McLaren as well as some of the other cars so to have a win and sixth is a fantastic start to the year and we’re really looking forward to the next round at Spa and being just as competitive there. I’d just like to take this opportunity to thank Greystone GT, McLaren and EDGE for all their hard work.”
Results: Q- P2 / R1 – WIN! / R2 – P6
