British GT Championship – Round 8 – Brands Hatch GP
Race Report – Harry George & Luca Hopkinson
Round 8 of the 2025 British GT Championship took place at the world-famous Brands Hatch on the ever-popular Grand Prix layout.
EDGE Sporting Management duo Harry George and Luca Hopkinson, driving their Optimum Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4, arrived in Kent looking to turn their recent run of GT4 podiums into a long-awaited first overall GT4 victory.
A challenging start to the weekend came when a fuel pump issue in free practice left the McLaren slightly behind on mileage compared to its GT4 rivals. Despite this setback, the EDGE pair delivered an impressive qualifying performance, with P2 and P5 in the two sessions combining to secure second on the grid for Sunday’s two-hour endurance contest.
Harry took the opening stint and immediately set about building a commanding lead at the front of the GT4 pack. A mid-stint safety car intervention neutralised the field, wiping away George’s advantage, but the EDGE driver remained calm and repeated the feat after the restart, once again edging clear of his rivals. A near-perfect pit stop by Optimum Motorsport set up Luca Hopkinson for the final stint, and the young Briton drove superbly to bring the McLaren home just over three seconds clear of the chasing BMW M4 GT4 Evo.
After some misfortune at previous rounds and consistent visits to the podium’s lower steps, it was finally the moment the EDGE duo had been working toward – GT4 class victory and overall honours at one of the UK’s most iconic circuits.
Speaking shortly after the race, Harry George said:
“It’s unbelievable, it still hasn’t sunk in yet – it’s a fantastic feeling, every bit as good as I thought it was going to be, and so good to do it around my local and one of my favourite circuits. I’d really like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved, including Optimum, who did a near-perfect pit stop, and EDGE Sporting Management, as always, for the support.”
For George and Hopkinson, victory at Brands Hatch marks a milestone moment in their 2025 campaign, putting them firmly on the top step of the GT4 category and adding further momentum heading into the closing stages of the season, where they are looking to take Silver class championship honors.
