HOPKINSON & GEORGE – SNETTERTON RACE REPORT – BRITISH GT CHAMPIONSHIP ROUNDS 6 & 7
Rounds 6 and 7 of the 2025 British GT Championship saw the paddock return to UK soil at the Snetterton 300 Circuit in Norfolk, following the series’ flyaway round at Spa-Francorchamps.
EDGE Sporting Management GT4 Silver pairing of Harry George and Luca Hopkinson arrived in strong spirits, eager to carry momentum from their standout performance in Belgium. The duo continued to race for Optimum Motorsport in the McLaren Artura GT4, facing a new challenge in the form of blisteringly hot track temperatures.
Testing ahead of the double-header weekend showed promising signs, with the McLaren Artura looking well-balanced and competitive. This was confirmed in Qualifying 1 when Luca Hopkinson delivered a sensational lap to take pole position by an impressive 0.7 seconds — his first pole in GT4 competition.
In Qualifying 2, Harry George was also showing excellent pace, but an unfortunate clip with the tyre barrier at Turn 5 cost him time and saw him finish the session P5.
Race 1, held in the punishing heat, saw Hopkinson and George put in a consistent and calculated drive. Their race pace was strong, averaging just over a tenth per lap slower than the winning Ginetta G56. A composed performance resulted in P3 overall in GT4 and a second-place finish in the Silver class — a solid result in challenging conditions.
In Race 2, George and Hopkinson faced a more difficult task starting from P5. The McLaren struggled to follow the BMW M4 GT4 Evo in the heat and turbulent air, which hampered progress early on. Despite these challenges, they fought hard and brought the car home in P4 overall and again P2 in the Silver class, rounding out the weekend with a brace of second-place class finishes.
The double podium represents a very strong points haul for the Edge pairing, who remain firmly in contention for the GT4 Silver class championship heading into the next round at Brands Hatch GP.
Both drivers praised the efforts of Optimum Motorsport for providing a well-prepared and competitive car throughout the weekend, and extended their thanks to EDGE Sporting Management for their ongoing support and guidance during the 2025 season.
Results: Q1 – P1 Overall / Q2 – P5 /. Race 1 – P2 in Silver Class / Race 2 – P2 in Silver Class
