Podium for Porter in Portimao

Mikey Porter – International GT Open – GT3 – Pro Class

The opening round of the 2025 International GT Open Championship took part at Portugal’s Portimao circuit.

Newly signed EDGE driver, Mikey Porter, was driving his McLaren 720S GT3 for the Optimum Motorsport Team in the Pro Class and was looking to hit the ground running.

Testing proved challenging as neither Driver nor the team had done any preseason testing at the venue which meant the test days were used up concentrating on circuit familiarisation & set up work.

Despite this, Porter qualified fourth in class for race one which was a pleasing result & put the car in a nice starting position for the races.

Race one proved challenging due to lots of traffic and difficulty overtaking in aero wash from cars in front. The cars balance was also challenging which was good data for race two but Porter was pleased to bring the car home P6 in the pro class.

Some more technical tweaks for Race 2 saw their pace much improved as they climbed from 6th to the lead of the race at the halfway stage. The lead proved too difficult to hold onto but they came home in a fantastic second place, an opening round podium for the team.

Shortly afterwards Porter Said:

“Coming into the opening round with such little testing the team did a fantastic job to keep improving the car over the weekend and this was topped off with an excellent podium in Race 2. We’re really looking forward to the next round at Spa, I would like to thank Optimum for a great car and EDGE management for the opportunity.”
