The final round of the Rokit FIA British F4 championship was held at the Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit in Kent.
EDGE Sporting Management driver, Reza Seewooruthun, went into the weekend 4th in the championship just 17 points behind the 3rd placed driver, a position he had held numerous times throughout the year & certainly one he wanted back to finish off his maiden single seater championship in style.
Qualifying had been an element of his season that Reza has been working hard to improve on & this was rewarded with a second-place grid slot for both the qualification races.
Race 1 & Race 2 were two strong results, finishing second in the first and 9th in the reverse grid second race. This meant going into the final race of the season he had closed that 17-point gap in the championship to just 2.5 points.
As the green flag lap commenced the heavens opened & delivered a short sharp British shower which gave the drivers the very difficult task of slick tyres on a wet track. Needless to say, it was a chaotic first couple of laps with cars off everywhere and in the end a beached car in the gravel at T1 brought out the Red Flag. The race was declared ‘null & void’ and a complete restart was the course of action.
This gave the field a tricky tyre choice. About half the field opted for the wet tyres, whilst the other half gambled on it drying up quickly & so stayed on the dry slick tyres. All of the Top 6 on the grid, including Reza, switched to the wet tyres.
It was a cautious start in the wet conditions and Reza lost a place down to 3rd as they went onto the GP loop on the opening lap. This was a position that he held until the safety car was called for with 10 minutes of the race to go.
At this point Reza was P3 in both the race & the championship. It was a lengthy safety car period and there was only two minutes to go before the safety car pulled into the pit lane and released the field for a couple of minutes of hectic racing to end the championship. Reza immediately lost third place, after a slow starting Robinson in second place had a slide out of the last corner. By the end of the lap the chequered flag was out as time had ran out & the Edge driver crossed the line to finish 4th.
Shortly after Reza Commented:
“I was very pleased with my qualifying pace, something I’ve worked really hard on in preparation for this weekend. The weather tried to throw us a curveball in that final race but I’m very pleased to come away 3rd in the British F4 championship, in what was my first year in single seaters. I’d like to thank the team, my sponsors and Edge Sporting Management for helping make this all possible”
Results – Q – P2 / R1 – P2 / R2 – P9 / R3 – P4
