P2 for Reza at Silverstone

Reza Seewooruthun – GB3 Championship – Round 5 – Silverstone GP Circuit

Round 5 of the GB3 Championship partnered by the BRDC took place at the home of British motorsport, Silverstone, on the world-famous Grand Prix layout. Reza Seewooruthun, driving for Argenti Motorsport, arrived with confidence, returning to a venue where he had shown strong pace earlier in the season. That confidence was well-founded as he delivered an excellent qualifying performance, securing P2 for race one and P7 for race two.

Qualifying was not without its drama. As Reza prepared to leave the pit lane, another car made contact with him, damaging his front wing. This forced him to quickly return to the garage for a wing change before heading back out. Despite the disruption, Reza kept his composure and delivered an impressive lap to secure a front-row start for race one and a solid grid slot for race two.

In race one, Reza ran in third place early on, showing strong pace and closing in on second. The leader had established a small gap, but Reza was clearly quicker than the car ahead and was lining up a move into Brooklands. Unfortunately, the defending driver made heavy contact, damaging Reza’s front wing. With the pit lane closed due to an unrelated medical emergency in the paddock area, he was unable to pit for repairs and was forced to retire — a hugely frustrating outcome given that the issue could have been resolved quickly, allowing him to rejoin.

Race two saw Reza start from seventh. In a composed and determined drive, he executed several calculated overtakes to move up the order, eventually finishing an excellent fourth. His racecraft and patience in key moments were clear to see.

The final race of the weekend brought changeable conditions. The track was wet beforehand but drying rapidly, meaning tyre choice was crucial. Reza and the team opted for slicks — a decision that proved inspired. Starting from seventh, he charged through the field with decisive moves, adapting perfectly to the evolving grip levels. By the closing laps, he had risen to second and was closing on the leader at over three-tenths per lap, but simply ran out of time to mount a challenge for victory.

A weekend that yielded a DNF, a fourth, and a second was very much a case of “what might have been,” with three podium finishes a realistic possibility. However, the upward turn in form, combined with a breakthrough in car setup, leaves the team and driver optimistic for the remainder of the season.

Reza now sits eighth in the championship standings, but with just 20 points covering third to eighth, the fight for a top-three finish remains wide open with three rounds to go.

Reza expressed his thanks to Edge Sporting Management for their continued support throughout the weekend.
