P2 FOR PORTER AT PAUL RICARD

Round 5 of the International GT Open, which held races 8 and 9 of the championship, was held at the Paul Ricard Circuit in France. EDGE Sporting Management driver Mikey Porter was looking for a strong result to back up the one he’d had a couple of weeks ago at the Hungaroring.

Qualifying was a super tight affair with Porter’s teammate Zac Meakin qualifying P12 for Race 1. Porter was hoping to go a little better, and this proved to be the case as he qualified P7, which was P5 in the pro class, for Sunday’s Race 2.

Race 1, they finished P6 from P12, which was a very solid result, considering starting position. The car was very good, and the pace seemed very strong, and they were hoping for a better result for Race 2 on Sunday, where they were starting 7th.

And this proved to be the case. Porter started and got from P7 to P4 by the end of Lap 3, which was a fantastic effort, and on Lap 10, 2nd, 3rd, and Porter in 4th were nose to tail.

Once the dust settled after the pit stops, which Optimum Motorsport did a fantastic job, Porter handed the car over to Meakin in P2, a position that he held until the end for a fantastic 2nd place and another visit to the International GT Open podium.

This leaves the British duo 4th in the championship, just 3 points off 3rd place.

Following the event, Porter said they were:

“Extremely happy with how the weekend went, how the car and the team performed, and would like to thank Optimum and Edge Sporting Management for all their support as they look to try and take 3rd place in the championship at the next race.”
