P2 for Gamble In Race 2 at Donington Park

George Gamble – Porsche Carrera Cup GB – Rd.11 & 12 – Donington Park GP – August ‘24

Round Eight of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB championship was held at the Donington Park circuit in Derbyshire.

EDGE management driver George Gamble suffered a broken radiator in qualifying after some contact with another car when it started raining on the first lap when all cars were on slick tyres. This meant a back of the grid P22 starting position.

Driving his Rosland Gold by Century Motorsport 911 GT3 Cup Car he got a fantastic start and by the end of lap one was upto P15, up 7 places from his starting grid slot!

Progress continued to be strong and by the end of lap 2 he was upto 13th. Momentum slowed a little from here on in as he got amongst the more competitive cars but by halfway he was upto P10 with the fastest lap of the race.

In the end Gamble just ran out of laps but a very satisfying 8th place was his reward for such an impressive fight back drive.

Race 2 saw a frantic opening first few corners with some light contact through Craner Curves between numerous cars. George managed to keep his nose clean and by the end of lap one he was upto P4! A brilliant first lap.

The start of lap 4 saw an ambitious overtake by Gamble who went to the outside line for Turn one, Redgate. He had to hang onto the outside on the exit, using every inch of the tarmac but this then rewarded him with the inside line for the left hander at the Craner Curves and this promoted him to P3 again with the races fastest lap to his name.

Everyone held station for a few more laps but by lap 7 the first 3 were line a stern & a change for the lead occurred which gave Gamble the opportunity he needed to dive up the inside at the Melbourne Hairpin to get to P2. He then had to defend this position for the next ¾ of the lap which enabled the leader to get away by over 2 seconds, a gap that proved too much to close despite Gambles pace.

Gamble now sits third in the championship with two rounds to go but is well in the hunt being only 7 points off the championship lead.
