George Gamble – Porsche Carrera Cup GB – Donington Park
The first round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain was held at Donington Park and saw EDGE driver George Gamble return to the championship with the Rosland Gold with Century Motorsport team looking to win races from the off after showing some excellent speed in pre-season testing.
Qualifying was a super tight affair and saw Gamble qualify in sixth place but was only 0.143 seconds off pole position which goes to show the competitiveness of the championship with the top 10 drivers only separated by 0.255 seconds.
Race one was a hectic affair with quite a bit of contact but George rallied always putting the car in the right places and by lap eight had worked his way up to P2 this was where he stayed until the chequered flag and was very pleased to record a podium in the first round of the championship.
Unfortunately, from here monsoon conditions ensued and the Sunday timetable at Donington was thrown into question. In the end, the Porsche Carrera Cup race had to be suspended and will be ran on the Saturday evening at the next round at brands hatch.
After the weekend Gamble commented “It was great to be back in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB and I’d like to thank the team who did an excellent job and gave me a car capable of winning races. I’m very much looking forward to the next round at Brands Hatch where I can push on and hopefully get my first win of the season”
