MORE PODIUMS FOR HOPKINSON AND GEORGE AT SPA

HOPKINSON & GEORGE – SPA RACE REPORT – BRITISH GT CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 5

The fifth round of the 2025 British GT Championship saw the paddock head to the world-renowned Grand Prix venue of Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. For the EDGE Sporting Management GT4 Silver pairing of Harry George and Luca Hopkinson, it marked the season’s flyaway round – and an opportunity to convert their pace into silverware.

Qualifying – Saturday

Qualifying took place on Saturday under hot and humid conditions in the Ardennes. The young Optimum Motorsport duo delivered an excellent combined performance to qualify 3rd overall and 2nd in the Silver Cup – their strongest showing of the season to date.

Race – Sunday (3 Hours)

Sunday’s race was held in blistering temperatures that tested tyre life, physical endurance, and engine cooling. With the McLaren 570S GT4 already compromised in straight-line speed by the Balance of Performance adjustments, the team knew that maintaining momentum through Spa’s technical middle sector would be key.

At the green flag, George and Hopkinson made an immediate impact – climbing into second place early on. Demonstrating maturity and strong pace throughout their respective stints, the pair held position before executing a perfectly timed strategy to take the lead in the Silver class.

Despite relentless pressure and the physical demands of the circuit, they maintained their composure and crossed the line P1 in the Silver Class, recording their first-class victory of the season and a third-place finish overall in the GT4 field.

A milestone weekend for the young driver duo and Edge Sporting Management pairing, this result marks a turning point in their 2025 campaign. The victory at Spa not only confirms their potential but sets a strong platform heading into the second half of the season.

Speaking after the race, George said:

“It’s a fantastic place to get a podium – and to get our first class win as a pairing at Spa makes it extra special. I’d like to thank EDGE and Optimum Motorsport for a fantastic car this weekend. We hope to carry this momentum into Snetterton.”
