Lewis Goff has been crowned the 2026 Ginetta Junior Champion after a superb weekend at Donington Park saw the EDGE Sporting Management driver seal both the overall Drivers’ and Rookie championships with one round of the season remaining.
The penultimate round of the Ginetta Junior Championship, supported by Sunoco Fuels, brought the series back to Donington Park for the second time this season. It was a circuit filled with happy memories for Goff, who had started his 2026 campaign in perfect fashion by winning all three races at the opening round of the year.
Returning to the East Midlands circuit as championship leader, Goff held a commanding 115-point advantage at the top of the standings. With 110 points the magic number he needed to maintain by the end of the weekend to secure the crown, the task was clear – but completing it would require a very different approach to his dominant opening weekend at Donington.
Qualifying proved incredibly close, with the ever-present threat of track limits penalties adding another challenge for the Junior field. With the championship picture firmly in mind, Goff elected to err slightly on the side of caution and ensured he delivered two clean laps, securing ninth and tenth on the grid for the opening two races.
Starting ninth in race one, Goff produced a measured drive through the field to climb four positions and take fifth place at the chequered flag. With his championship rivals fighting hard to keep their title hopes alive, staying out of trouble while continuing to score strongly was crucial, and fifth represented a valuable opening result.
Race two brought another step forward. From tenth on the grid, Goff worked his way through to an excellent third place and another podium finish.
It was a mature performance from the championship leader, who faced the difficult balancing act of competing against drivers with little to lose while knowing that one incident or non-finish could dramatically change the complexion of the title fight. Goff continued to show the judgement and consistency that had put him in such a commanding position heading into the penultimate weekend.
Everything therefore came down to Sunday’s final race.
Knowing exactly what was required to secure the championship, Goff once again delivered when the pressure was at its highest. There were some nail-biting moments along the way, but he kept himself firmly in contention and crossed the line in second place.
A five-second track limits penalty for the driver who had finished ahead subsequently promoted Goff to the race victory – providing a fitting conclusion to both the weekend and his championship campaign.
Having started his season with victory at Donington Park, Goff sealed the 2026 Ginetta Junior Championship with another win at the very same circuit.
The result confirmed Goff as both the 2026 Ginetta Junior Drivers’ Champion and Rookie Champion, adding his name to a prestigious list of drivers to have won one of motorsport’s most competitive junior championships.
It also capped a memorable weekend for R Racing, with the team securing the Teams’ Championship alongside Goff’s individual success.
With the title now mathematically secured, Goff can head to the season finale at Brands Hatch free from championship pressure and with the opportunity to enjoy the final races of what has already been an outstanding 2026 campaign.
