Round 2 of the Formula Regional Middle East Championship took place at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi from 21st January to the 23rd January 2025.
Wanting to capitalise on the learning had from the previous weekend, EDGE driver Reza Seewooruthun with his Prema supported, Mumbai Falcons car rolled into qualifying aiming for some top 10 results.
The super competitive qualifying session saw Reza set a time which would see him line up P10 and P15.
Race 1 began and Reza made a positive start. An early collision saw the safety car come and out a Reza dropped back to P12. As the race re started Reza was locked onto his competitors gearbox. As the tyre temp built, Reza’s confidence gained and he soon began to pick off his competitors. As the flag dropped Reza crossed the line in P11, just missing out on the reverse grid pole position by 1 place.
Race 2 saw Reza start in P11. A great start saw the young Brit move up to P9 in the early stages. As the pack settled in, it was clear to see that Reza’s car was working much better in the later, cooler evening temperatures. A safety car mid way through the race neutralised any further progress, but as the lights went out on the safety car Reza made an early move and moved up to P8, and then onto P7, he was flying! The gap to Championship leader, Freddie Slater, who was in P6 was closing at a rapid rate, but the flag came out and Reza would finish in P7.
Race 3 would see Reza line up P15, with a tough race ahead. As the lights went out Reza made a fantastic start and at the end of lap 2 was up to P9, followed by a safety car. The safety car period ended and the race settled down. Reza got into a solid rhythm and began to work on the pack ahead. With 7 minutes left on the clock, and Reza having preserved his tyres perfectly, saw the young brit begin to make his moves, and began to work his through the pack and on the last lap he took P6 as the flag fell. A fantastic race.
