PROGRESS FOR SEEWOORUTHUN IN FORMULA REGIONAL MIDDLE EAST

Reza Seewooruthun – Formula Regional Middle East Championship (FRMEC) – January 18-19th 2025

EDGE Sporting Management driver Reza Seewooruthun made his debut in a Formula Regional car this weekend, driving for the super successful Mumbai Falcons team.

Racing in the Formula Regional Middle East series takes place across five rounds, three of which are at the Formula One venue at Yas Marina (Abu Dhabi) with one at the Dubai Autodrome & the final round taking place at a debut venue for the series, namely the Lusail International Circuit in Qatar.

It was a bit of a baptism of fire for Seewooruthun, who makes the step up from F4 machinery, as he had not tested the car prior to the first round so had to learn & adapt quickly.

He did this very well however and qualified his Tatuus built FRECA machine P9 & P7 in a bumper field of over 25 cars.

Race 1 Reza made a great start and made up a position immediately off the line and soon promoted himself again upto P7.

As he lined up a pass for P6 the gearbox stuttered & failed to select the next gear which forced Reza into retirement, a real shame after making such a positive start.

Race 2 start positions are determined from the finish position of Race 1 and so the EDGE driver was forced to start from the back of the field. A fantastic drive from 25th to 13th was the result, which ended up being 11th after some penalties from cars ahead and was the most positions made up by any car in the field.

Race 3 Reza again showed his potential and speed by running as high as P4 at one point before an inconsistent brake problem hampered any further progress & as he nursed this problem he dropped back to finish P9 by the flag.

After the weekend Reza commented:

“I really have enjoyed my first weekend in a FRECA car, testing went really well as we kept chipping away at lap time and to qualify inside the top 10 for both sessions was a really pleasing effort. The races really were a case of ‘what ifs’ really with some bad luck in races 1 & 3. Overall though I think we showed what we can do, have good potential & I can’t wait to get back out next week. I’d just like to thank all my sponsors, EDGE & Mumbai Falcons for this opportunity.”

RESULTS: Q1- P9 / Q2 – P7 / R1 – DNF / R2 – P11 / R3 – P9
